Painting a house portrait using Google images

Behind every house portrait is a story of home, places of memories and love.

This very special commission was inspired by a much loved grandma, whose house was the focal point for the family.

Sadly she passed away last Autumn, and her granddaughter Lauren wanted a memento of this special place, to give to her mother and aunt. Lauren didn’t have her own photo of the house (many of us wouldn’t think to take a photo of our home, in its entirety, from the outside), but between Lauren’s memories and Google Street View, we were able to capture an essence of the house.

To begin the composition, we gathered a few images of the house from Google Street View. Lauren searched online for photos of flowers and ornaments similar to those found in her grandma's garden. With the image reference I created a digital collage using Photoshop, giving a warm feeling with soft oranges and uplifting greens.

Lauren's family loved the painting so much they ordered 7 more! It was such an honour to paint these special mementos for the family.
